THE DETAILS BEHIND THE DATA

About, data & legal

Thanks for using TagSeer. I hope it makes researching your next hunt a little easier.

Research for your next hunt.

TagSeer brings published hunting statistics, license reports and access estimates into one place. It is an independent research tool, not a licensing, reservation, navigation or guiding service. It is not affiliated with or endorsed by CPW or the other agencies credited below.

Before you act on a result

  • Check the official license. Confirm current dates, eligibility, limits and restrictions with CPW.
  • Verify access. Maps and acreage estimates do not authorize entry or hunting.
  • Keep the numbers in context. Historical success is not your personal odds, and a reported quantity is not a held license.

If information differs, current official requirements and the relevant land manager’s or landowner’s rules control.

Reading the numbers

Compare like with like: species, report year, season, area and denominator all matter. Open a hunt to inspect the underlying observations.

Harvest & effort
Harvest %
Reported harvest ÷ participating hunters × 100. Some sources, including bear reports, use licenses sold instead; that different basis is identified with the rate. These are past population-level results, not a prediction for you.
H / 100 days
Harvests per 100 hunter-days: reported harvest ÷ total hunter-days × 100. It describes harvest relative to effort, not the percentage of hunters who succeeded.
Days / harvest
Total hunter-days ÷ harvest. Days / hunter instead divides effort by participating hunters. Some hunter-days are reconstructed from published averages and inherit their rounding.
Earlier years & groups
Older unit reports can combine codes, sexes or seasons. They remain distinct from exact-code results. Pooled rates sum compatible counts rather than average percentages. Missing denominators reduce coverage; incompatible bases are not combined. Combined-sex hunter counts do not support sex-specific success rates.
Land & access estimates
Public % / acres
Conservative whole-unit planning estimates of generally huntable acreage. Special access requiring a separate permit or drawing and Walk-In Access (WIA) are excluded. These shared estimates use an elk/ordinary-rifle access approximation; they are not species- or license-specific.
Multiple units
Public percentages use total estimated public acres divided by total area across unique GMUs, not an average of their percentages. Missing unit estimates leave the combined total unknown; individual units remain available in the details.
Lower / upper estimates
“Lower” describes the conservative method, not a guaranteed minimum of accessible land today. A potential upper estimate includes uncertain acreage; it is not a statistical confidence interval or permission to use that land.
Land quality
A limited-evidence judgment about relative public/private hunting quality. It does not adjust harvest rates or public-acre estimates and is not a recommendation score. It does not measure the share of harvests taken on public land.
Draw demand & points
Apps / quota
First-choice applications ÷ general quota for the published quota group. This measures historical demand, not individual draw odds; a quota group can span more than one hunt code.
Draw tier
The last tier drawn for the selected residency and applicant group. Final-tier awards and applicants describe that historical tier, not a guaranteed future point requirement.
Draw fill
Primary-draw awards as a percentage of quota, where the source identifies a single hunt code.
Reissue opportunity
An observed reissue is evidence of supply, not the chance of obtaining a license. The reports do not identify how many people competed for it. Missing archive weeks are unknown, not zero reissues.

Reports & freshness

Quantities are snapshots. Leftover and reissue counts come from saved CPW reports. They can change before you act and do not represent a live inventory, reservation or guarantee that a license will be offered. Check CPW’s purchasing system before buying.

Last refresh is a check time. It records the application’s last successful report check; the report itself can be older or unchanged. Failed checks may leave the last usable snapshot visible with a warning. Neither a recent check nor a scheduled countdown confirms that CPW has published new inventory.

During the reissue season, CPW schedules previews for Tuesday at 11 AM Mountain Time and releases licenses Wednesday as close to 11 AM as its system allows. This app may retain the saved preview until 1 PM Wednesday for reference only. That grace period does not mean CPW’s preview remains current. See CPW’s current reissue process.

Combined reports and recorded examples

The CLI/API’s combined-source option retains separate counts and dates. It adds quantities only for matching, fresh, current-week sources before release. Afterward, where a leftover row exists, it uses that quantity to avoid double-counting. Preview-only rows during the reference period retain outdated scheduled counts. Any pre-release total is an estimate, not guaranteed drop inventory.

A video marked Demo shows a recorded example using archived reports. Its dates and quantities are not current availability.

Displayed restrictions may be incomplete. Follow the current brochure, official license description and land-access rules. Statistical reports can contain survey uncertainty, rounding, revisions and missing denominators.

Maps & access

For illustration only. Boundaries and land shading are approximate. Do not use this map for navigation, parcel boundaries or permission to enter or hunt land.

A highlighted GMU is a broad reference area, not the exact legal footprint of every license. Big-game GMUs do not replace the separate sheep and mountain-goat unit systems. Federal-land shading identifies approximate surface management; unshaded areas are not necessarily private. Simplification can omit small parcels and private inholdings.

Ownership alone does not establish a legal access route. Check closures, roads and trails, easements, property rules and reservation or permit requirements. Obtain required private-land permission. Access can vary by species, season and license; even a conservative acreage estimate is not a guarantee of current access.

Outdoor activities involve risks such as injury, exposure, wildlife encounters and loss of communications. Make a safety plan and use current authoritative information and suitable navigation tools.

Privacy

There are no user accounts, embedded payment forms or advertising scripts. The app does not request your CPW login, precise device location or payment credentials. Search filters go to this server to return results. Search URLs may remain in your browser history or bookmarks; anyone you share a link with can see its encoded filters and codes. Do not enter personal or sensitive information in search.

Optional analytics are off for this installation. This installation does not collect visitor identifiers or search-usage statistics. No analytics cookies, browser fingerprints or third-party analytics scripts are used. Necessary request handling and temporary abuse counters still operate.

Technical information & messages

Request delivery and abuse prevention involve technical information such as an IP address, requested path, time and browser details. Abuse counters are temporary and held in server memory. Routine HTTP access logging is disabled in our public deployment. Limited operational logs and infrastructure providers may retain technical information needed for security and service operation.

If you email us, your email address, message and any attachments are used to respond, investigate issues and improve the app. We retain correspondence as reasonably needed for those purposes, follow-up, disputes and legal recordkeeping; it is separate from analytics retention. Please do not send CPW passwords, payment credentials or unnecessary personal information.

The public website is hosted in the United States by Amazon Web Services. Cloudflare provides domain and DNS services; Zoho handles email. These providers process information needed to supply their services. External links open services with their own privacy practices. We may retain or disclose information where necessary to meet legal obligations or address security incidents. We do not sell personal information or use it for targeted advertising.

For privacy questions or requests to access, correct, receive a copy of or delete information you have provided, use the contact section. We will assess applicable rights and explain any limits, including information we cannot identify as yours or must retain by law. You can ask us to review our response. You do not need to send sensitive identification with your initial request.

Children and changes to this notice

This is a general hunting-research service, not a service designed specifically for children. We do not ask for ages or dates of birth. A parent or guardian who believes a child has sent personal information can contact us to request review or deletion. Please avoid sending a child’s sensitive details with the initial request.

Material changes to our privacy practices will be reflected here, with an updated date and any notice, consent or choice required by law. New features that collect additional information require a separate review before activation.

Sources & credits

Source agencies have not certified this app’s calculations or endorsed its interpretation. Source dates and methodology matter; government publication does not make every item unrestricted or current.

Colorado Parks and Wildlife

Harvest, draw, population and license reports; GMU outlines and public-access/property layers. The app standardizes factual records and derives comparison metrics. Map geometry is simplified and reprojected. CPW retains rights in its state-created material; it is not labeled federal public domain.

Bureau of Land Management, Colorado

Surface Management Agency data supplies the federal-land shading (October 16, 2026 snapshot) and federal parcels for the independent access estimates. The app combined, clipped and simplified features and omitted very small display features. BLM has not approved these modifications. The source is not a survey or legal boundary determination.

Other federal mapping sources

Neighboring-state outlines use generalized and reprojected U.S. Census Bureau TIGERweb 2026 data. Access estimates also use USGS National Hydrography Dataset water information and Geographic Names Information System context, National Park Service boundaries, and U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service fee-tract information. Data available from U.S. Geological Survey, National Geospatial Program.

Whole-unit access estimates were independently prepared October 17, 2026 from these sources, CPW property layers and published property rules. Overlays, conservative deductions and access judgments are the app’s work. Earlier COMaP-derived estimates are excluded from the active dataset. No exclusive rights are asserted in public facts or original U.S. Government works.

Software notices

The app uses third-party software under its respective licenses. Those licenses apply to the included components; they do not grant a license to this app’s original code or design.
